Exposició Aula Natura
Montserrat is a unique wonder in Catalonia and in the world, a place that is most singular and of unrivalled beauty.

We recommend you visit the Nature hall, located in the top station of the Sant Joan funicular railway itself. This is an exhibition that teaches about and brings you closer to the secrets of the Monserrat mountain. You will find there information about its history, its unusual geology, the life forms it supports, the hidden treasures of its caves, itsclimate, and details about the wealth and variety of its native flora and fauna.
You will learn too about the history of its early settlers, the remarkable hermits’ lives at Montserrat, intimately linked to the spiritual life of the mountain and to the history of thesanctuary, from its foundation to the present day.
You will also find detailed information about the Virgin of Montserrat, known as la Moreneta (the black virgin), the legends of her discovery, the story of and reasons for her characteristic black features, and also about the Virolai, otherwise known as the “April rose”, a hymn with words by Monsignor Jacint Verdaguer and music by Josep Rodoreda that was dedicated to the Virgin of Montserrat on the occasion of the millennium celebrations of Montserrat in 1880, as well as the history of the Escolania, one of the oldest and best known music schools in Europe.
